Zooey Deschanel likes telling dirty jokes. The 31-year-old actress enjoys working with a male-dominated cast on New Girl has helped her appreciate “guy humour” more. She said: “I love being on set with the guys. It’s wonderful – I really enjoy it. The actors are really fun to work with. We have a great time on set. And I’m on set so much of the time that it does actually feel like I’m living with those guys!” “I’ve always been really girlie. I think it’s definitely made me understand guy humour a little bit more. I can tell a dirty joke!”

Zooey Deschanel has “always wanted to be normal”. The (500) Days of Summer actress has learned to “take advantage” of her reputation for being “offbeat” following years of trying to fit in. She said: “I always wanted to be normal. I tried really hard but it’s like I try so hard and then people say I’m offbeat. “I’ve learnt to accept that and take advantage of it as an actor. It’s like, ‘Well, that’s who I am’, and it comes through and it’s OK.” However, the 31-year-old star maintains she doesn’t “crave the approval” of those who don’t like her, as she isn’t prepared to change herself. She added: “I don’t crave the approval of someone who just doesn’t like me. If they don’t like me then that’s fine. But yeah, occasionally you’ll run across something where someone will say something mean about you and it’s hard because there are some things you can’t change about yourself. “And, you know, you shouldn’t change them because other people like them. It seems like a lot of people love having an opinion, which is great, but I don’t always need to hear it.”

Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard lasted a good sight longer than Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries but sadly they too have bitten the celebrity marriage dust this week, after two years together. Deschanel, 31 and Gibbard, 35 tied the knot near Seattle, Washington – the same state that the latter was born in – in 2009 after a year’s engagement. Gibbard is front man of Death Cab For Cutie, one of US rock’s most enduring acts for well over a decade, with this year’s album Codes and Keys being their seventh studio record. It peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200, the third time they’ve breached the top 5. However with the global touring that such success entails, it’s kept the musician away from actress Deschanel, herself becoming busier since the surprise success of 2009 movie (500) Days Of Summer. Back in September, U.S. Weekly reports her telling New York Magazine that she’d found it hard being away from Gibbard, saying “He’s really good at calling. He’s probably better than I am. He’s a very conscientious person.” Now that distance appears to be too much, and an official source from Deschanel’s camp confirmed to US Weekly that the pair had separated, adding “It was mutual and amicable. There was no third party involved”.
